·
Expansion of
Pre-tech might benefit all industrial related tech programs
- 2 types of students in the program
- Students who have disciplinary problems or are
sent by their school and are not interested in the tech program
- Seems like pre-tech is a stepping stone to
Mythos or Phoenix
programs
- Maturity issues
- Students who are ready to begin the program
without the need to modify their maturity
- Only a small % of pre-tech students move on in
the program
- 9 out of 17 pre-tech this year who want to
continue in the tech program
- This year the % is greater than normal
o
A second year of
pre-tech would be a good place for students who want to get into the tech
program, but can’t due to over enrollment issues
·
Will mostly be
juniors
·
Some students
don’t get into a tech program due to behavioral issues
·
Would include an
in-shop rotation between the programs
o
There used to be
a course similar to this
o
Tech English/Math
built into it?
o
Facilities
issues? Can the shop off of Gary’s room be used?
·
Would meet a
student and curricular need
·
An additional
faculty member would be needed
·
Ed discussed with
Jim expanding night program classes into the day: Electrical and Plumbing
Programs
- Want to make plumbing and electrical program
available during the day for students
- Some of both currently integrated into other
tech programs, but not as in depth
- Would count as a first year apprenticeship
- Low startup funds needed
- Should it be incorporated into pre-tech or a new
program entirely
- Probably pre-tech or second year of pre-tech
- Possible partnership with large electrical
companies in town? (Off site
issues)
·
Next meeting: Mon 1/15/07 at 10 AM in room 114
- We will write a 1 page proposal for Pre-tech /
Auto Program Expansion.
