- Auto Trades: Reported by Ed Stout
- Recap:
- Addition of the Auto Trades Program
- Running at capacity; limited space an issue
for all Tech programs
- Maybe work in collaboration with a nonprofit
business in Barre
- Concerned about shipping kids offsite
- What kind of supervision would they receive?
- Is the business non-profit? Concerned about exploitation of
students
- If a student is fired or kicked out, where are
they placed?
- Students can’t get into the program because of
over enrollment
- 40-50 students apply; only 16 accepted
- Pre-auto/pre-tech program
- Facilities/equipment issues
- Juniors
- WIB Board
- Create curriculum for Tech Center
- Don’t pay attention to student’s desires
- Focus too much on Barre instead of entire
sending region
- Auto shop not used 4th block
- Can we have a pre-auto class then?
- Busing from sending schools is an issue.
- Would need to move work from kids in the tech
program
- Need a chain link fence to keep cars that are
being worked on safe
- Still a facilities issue
- Build an additional site elsewhere?
- Pre-Tech
- Create academy?
- 2 year program
- Take quarter classes
- 3 blocks?
What about core academics?
- Facilities issue
- What kind of prereq’s to get into the program?
- Sending school students here all day?
- We would be approaching a 4yr tech program
- Could we use underutilized facilities at
another school?
- Expansion of Certification Program to reach more
students
- Electrical and plumbing; diesel; farm equipment;
law enforcement; agriculture
- Looking for programs that can get gainful
employment immediately after school without post secondary ed
- Could still get post secondary ed in those
fields, but not necessary for employment
- Students who have completed the tech program
tend to start job with higher wage
- Entrepreneurship class hasn’t started yet
- Supposed to be 2-3 weeks within pretech
- Have it as a night class too?
- RAB: regional advisory board
- Get outside info for suggestions
- If we have people with influence we can push
things through
