Scheduling Committee Meeting
1/10/08
Present: Bob Phillips, Arthur Zorn, Charles Gasque, Tom McSweeney, Tom Sedore, Lori Matava, Andrea Richardson, BJ Griffith, George Drew, Lu Turmel, Mary Reardon, Lisa Lemieux,
History and findings of previous Scheduling Committee was reviewed and distributed to all present. Discussion ensued regarding current purpose and climate for schedule development.
The Superintendent has been directed by the board to review impact of a five block schedule. He will be invited to a future meeting of the committee.
Arthur Zorn provided a number of schedules that he “googled” from high schools that also have technical centers. He asked why we could not start running schedule options through the computer right away.
Lisa and Mary Reardon clarified the complexity of running schedule models and clarified that it is a two week process at minimum. This is compounded by the fact that our Student Information System is obsolete and no longer supported by the vendor.
Lori Matava stated that tech programs must be 240 minutes long and are constrained by bussing from sending schools. Therefore, tech classes need to be between 8:30am and 1:00pm.
Jamie Coleman shared a schedule model that he created. He explained the various options within this model and requested feedback at the next meeting.
Next meeting is 1/24/08 @3:00 in room 124. Superintendent will be invited.
Agenda will include:
Feedback on Jamie’s model
Discussion of an 11 block model
Discussion of a 5 block model
