Morning Block Music - Band

Students must now choose to enroll in either Band or Chorus. This change has been made in order to better meet the proficiency standards outlined in the Vermont and National Framework. These full-year music courses meet 4 days per week, with the fifth day open for students to choose either extra help from other teachers, or select chorus or musicianship lessons.

Song Writing and Music Production. Chorus, Credit 1, FNA101

This full-year course is open to all students who wish to have performance experience. Prior vocal experience is not required. This class meets four days per week during the morning block. Attendance at public performances that take place beyond school hours is required and will be a factor in grading.

Exploring Popular Music, Credit 1, FNA102

This class will trace the development of American popular music from its roots in the blues, through jazz and early rock and roll, continuing through present styles of rock music. This class will involve lecture, listening, viewing, student research, and essays.

Band, Credit 1, FNA110

This full-year course meets four days a week, during the morning block and students are expected to be members for the entire year. It is open to all students with prior instrumental music experience from either a middle school band program or private lessons on a band instrument. All students are expected to perform at all parades, home football games, and concerts. Music students are encouraged to take part in both instrumental & vocal music during the morning block. The instructors will work out scheduling with individual students.

Jazz Ensemble, Credit 1, FNA301

This course is open to all students having prior experience or permission from the instructor. This class meets five days a week each semester. Students are encouraged to join for the entire year as most of the repertoire is learned semester one and perfomr3e semester two. Students must be able to play one of the following instruments: trumpet, saxophone, trombone, piano, bass, drums or guitar. Students must be concurrently enrolled in Band FNA110

Beginning Guitar, Credit 1, FNA302

This is for the beginning guitar student with or without previous music experience. The course will consist of a survey of musical styles with emphasis on note reading. Guest artists will give brief clinics during the year. Limited to 15 students, priority given to upperclassmen. Prerequisite: Students must rent or own an acoustic guitar before the first class.
