RE: Phoenix Program/ End of Year Report

Again, another school year is rapidly drawing to a close. I would like to share with the board some results from Phoenix. We have worked with 36 students and their families this year, dealing with a myriad of problems and celebrating great success. As many as 19 students should graduate with the class of 2000. Please see below for a statistical breakdown of the 1999-2000 school year.
 
 

NOTE:

• All 19 graduates were either removed from S.H.S or dropouts.

• All 36 students encountered attendance or discipline problems while at S.H.S.

• The selection committee on May 31, 2000 added 15 new students for the fall semester and we will begin the school year with 25 students. Five spaces will be reserved for students who encounter difficulties during the first 40 days of the new school year.

• Phoenix Program students averaged over 30 hours per week at their workplace. Three students worked 45 hours per week all school year! (Plus attended school)

• Thirty-two of the 36 students indicated they would not have returned to school if not for Phoenix. (Some would have pursued a G.E.D.)
