BOARD-STAFF COMMUNICATIONS

1.0 The Board desires to maintain open channels of commun-
ication between itself and the staff. The basic lines
of communication will, however, be through the district
Superintendent.

2.0 Staff Communications to the Board

All communications or reports to the Board or any Board
Committee from principals, supervisors, teachers, or
other staff members shall be submitted through the Super-
intendent. This necessary procedure shall not be
construed as denying the right of any employee to appeal
to the Board for administrative decisions on important
matters, provided that the Superintendent shall have been
notified of the forthcoming appeal. Staff members are
also reminded that Board meetings are public meetings.
As such, they provide excellent opportunity to observe at
first hand the Board's deliberations on problems of staff
concern.

3.0 Board Communications to Staff

All official communications, policies and directives of
staff interest and concern will be communicated to staff
members through the Superintendent. The Superintendent
will employ all such media as are appropriate to keep
staff fully informed of the Board's problems, concerns,
and actions. All meetings of the Board and its
Committees shall be posted at each school district during
the year.

4.0 Visits to School

Official visits by Board members will be carried on only
under Board authorization and with full knowledge of the
administration. Informal visits are encouraged at any
time.

5.0 Social Interaction

Staff and Board members have a mutual interest in the
school and in education generally. When meeting at
social affairs and other gatherings, matters such as
education trends, issues and innovations and general
school district problems may be discussed. It is
expected that the confidentiality of such matters as
personalities or personnel grievances will not be
breached by staff or Board members, and that staff
members will continue to recognize the proper manner in
which to bring matters before the Board for
consideration.
