PRE-VOCATIONAL PROGRAM
1.0 The Barre Area Vocational Center (BAVC) establishes a
program of Pre-Vocational Education for students residing
in the service area of the school. The Pre-Vocational
Program shall enable students to progress towards a
mastery of basic skills in language, science, social
studies, and, at the same time, to investigate their
interests and abilities in each of the vocational
programs offered by the center. The program shall
consist of one-half day.
2.0 Pre-Vocational Program Goals
2.1 The student will remain in school and earn a high school diploma.
2.2 The student will demonstrate growth in the basic
skills area.
2.3 The student will improve self-esteem and demonstrate
a reduction in self-defeating behavior.
2.4 The student will identify occupational interests and
aptitudes.
2.5 The student will develop a plan for further education (training) and/or work experience.
3.0 Admissions Process
3.1 BAVC staff members will meet with prospective students in their regular schools.
3.2 Interested students will complete applications and
return them to their guidance counselors.
3.3 The BAVC Admissions Committee will meet to process
the applications.
3.4 BAVC Pre-Vocational Staff Members will schedule
meetings with parents/guardians and students to

establish a working home/school relationship.
3.5 Acceptance into the program will be indicated in
June preceding the academic year.
3.6 Admission to the program after the school year has
begun will be at the discretion of the BAVC
Director.
