ATHLETIC PROGRAM PROCEDURES

Individual assessments of all athletes shall be done on a regular and timely basis during the season, so that they shall know areas to improve. Regardless of playing time, the positive contributions of each varsity athlete will be stressed. Coaches are expected to treat all participates in a respectful manner at all times and shall promote the resolution of differences and concerns in a civil manner. coaches will insure that as many players as possible will be used in competition in order to create and promote a more positive team atmosphere. Each team member shall participate during each practice and every effort will be made to play in scheduled contests.

At the varsity level, it is understood that some athletes will play more often than others. At the sub-varsity level, the teaching of fundamental skills and team play shall be the primary focus. At this level, the playing time for individual athletes will be more nearly equal over the length of the season.

The intramural program shall encourage more students to become involved with athletics at Spaulding High School. The program shall have four purposes: it shall allow those students with outside employment or other time consuming activities to receive some exposure to lifetime recreational skills; it shall create an outlet for students not interested in the level of play found in inter-scholastic competition in athletics; it shall serve as a model for those sports being considered in the future as varsity sports; and the program shall encourage athletes to participate in the inter-scholastic sports program.

An overall objective of the Spaulding High School athletic program is to insure that an athlete's education remains as important as the individual's athletic development. The Athletic Director and coaches shall encourage and assist student athletes to strive for academic achievement. Programs shall be conducted to encourage athletes to improve their academic grades during their active participation in a sports program.
