GRADUATION
1.0 Spaulding High School and Barre Area Vocational/Technical Center believe that a structured education is of fundamental worth to an individual as a means to personal growth and responsible participation in a rapidly changing technological world. The curriculum emphasizes academic achievement in order to provide all students with the opportunity to acquire a core of knowledge, skills, and behavior critical to intellectual and vocational growth.
2.0 A four-year program of courses is recommended to provide students with the tools necessary to meet their post secondary needs. In extenuating circumstances, and with the approval of the principal, a student who meets the academic requirements of the school may graduate and receive a diploma in less than four years.
3.0 A Spaulding High School diploma will be awarded to students who complete twenty (20) credits (twenty four (24) starting with the class of 2000) as follows:
3.1 Four (4) credits in English
3.2 Three (3) credits in Mathematics
3.3 Three (3) credits in Social Studies, including:
3.3.1 One (1) credit in U.S. History
3.3.2 One (1) credit in Global History
3.4 Three (3) credits in a Science, including:
3.4.1 One (1) credit in a Physical Science
3.4.2 One (1) credit in a Life Science
3.4.3 One (1) credit in an elective
3.5 One-half (.5) credit in Health Education
3.6 One (1) credit in Fine Arts
3.7 One and one-half (1.5) credits in Physical Education
3.8 Four (4) credits in other electives
3.9 Four (4) additional elective credits effective for class of 2000.
4.0 Students are required to take a minimum of five (5) credits each year.
5.0 Modifications to these requirements may be developed and contained in the Individual Education Plan (IEP) for some students with the approval of the principal.
