ADMISSION POLICY INFORMATION

1.0 Admission Criteria

1.1 Priority for available slots

1.1.1 Junior class standing
1.1.2 Senior class standing
1.1.3 Ninth and tenth grade (with documented
letter as outlined by the S.D.E. Memo
#79-11-Adm-F)
1.1.4 Adults with out diploma
1.1.5 Adults with diploma

1.2 Criteria considered when a program is over subscribed

1.2.1 Counselor recommendations (knowledge of
this student from counseling, career
objectives, testing, guidance, parents)

1.2.1.1 Superior potential 10 points
1.2.1.2 Above average 8 points
1.2.1.3 Average 6 points
1.2.1.4 Conditional 4 points
1.2.1.5 Not recommended 2 points

1.2.2 Pre-vocational instructor recommendation
(knowledge of student from class performance, following directions, safety,
class attitude, career objectives)

2.0 Practices to Implement Admissions Process

2.1 Presentation(s) will be made at the member-school by
the BAVC Guidance Coordinator explaining offerings
at the Barre Vocational Center.

2.2 A visit to the Vocational Center by Sophomores and
Juniors will be scheduled.

2.3 Applications shall be completed by or for each
interested student-candidate.

2.4 The member-school Guidance Counselor will then

2.4.1 Complete background portion of application
to include student comments and career goal.

2.4.2 Separate the student application and route
the "pre-vocational" recommendation sheet
to the appropriate individual instructor.

2.4.3 Complete counselor's recommendation on
first page of application.

2.4.4 Gather student application and return the
three sheets to the Area Guidance
Coordinator for distribution of sheet #3
to the vocational instructor for final
interview with the student. (The BAVC
Guidance Coordinator will maintain file
and prepare sheets for admissions

meeting.)


2.5 After orientation visits to the Center, students
will be scheduled for interviews with the
instructor(s) of the class(es) of the student's
choice.

2.6 Admissions Committee will meet

2.6.1 During deliberations, the committee in its
judgement will designate a "conditional"
acceptance based on ratings of four or
lower on counselor and pre-vocational
teacher rating sheets. (Page 1 and 2 lower
sections of admissions form.)

2.6.2 The BAVC Guidance Coordinator will schedule separate "conditional" interviews
for those students so designated. Present
will be the student, member-school counselor, vocational teacher and Guidance
Coordinator.

2.6.3 Before school closing in June, each
individual case will be explored,
explained, reviewed, and a decision made
regarding this acceptance.

2.6.4 The acceptance will be "conditional" -
subject to acceptable attendance,
responsibility, performance, maturity,
safety, etc., demonstrated by this
student. A special letter will be
written in the name of the Admissions
Committee to parents explaining the
situation and conditions present.

2.7 A list of "alternate" candidate will be developed
in a priority determined by the committee.
Alternate candidates will receive notification to
this effect, and will be admitted as spaces become
available.

2.8 As soon as practical, admissions forms will be
returned to the home school counselor in their
entirety for file or destruction.

ADULT STUDENTS


3.0 Criteria for Admission

3.1 Adults will complete applications for the day
program and will be accepted as space becomes
available, no earlier than June for the fall
semester.

3.2 During the school year adults will be admitted
(especially in stone trades) at reasonable times so
as not to conflict with the academic process.

3.3 Placement in a vocational program will be consistent
with an adult's interest, ability, and with
reasonable chance of success of attaining his/her
training objectives. Adults will accept standards
of responsibility, safety and general school
regulations observed by all students in the
Vocational Center.

3.4 Placement will be determined by the duration of
expected instruction, the longer term for training,
the higher the priority. Equal or near equal periods will be treated on a first come basis as
applications are received.
