ADMISSION OF STUDENTS TO BARRE TECHNICAL CENTER PROGRAMS
HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

1.0 Introduction

1.1 To ensure an "equal access" technical admissions process, the Spaulding High School Union District Board authorizes the Technical Center to use an admission committee for the Technical Center based on the criteria set forth in this policy.

1.2 The Spaulding High School Union District, under whose jurisdiction the Technical Center operates, adhere to the policies outlined in the Title IX of the Federal Educational Amendment of 1972, regarding sex discrimination, and is in compliance with P.L. 94-142 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Buckley Amendment in regards to the curriculum and operation of Spaulding High School Union District.

2.0 Organization

2.1 The admissions committee shall consist of a guidance representative from each participating member-school and shall be chaired by the Campus Guidance Director.

2.2 This committee is responsible to the Assistant Technical Director.

2.3 Each member-school is entitled to one vote on an admissions issue coming before this committee. The Spaulding High School Union District Board has the final authority for admissions policy.

3.0 Admissions Committee Procedure

3.1 Since there is a need to maintain a level of achievement in technical programs, and there are more candidates for certain programs than space available or safety requirements allow, the admissions committee is charged with the responsibility of reviewing student applications. The committee will make the selections for vacancies based on the following criteria:

3.1.1 Recommendations of counselors and technical instructors.

4.1 Any concerns about an application which go beyond the knowledge or jurisdiction of the student's counselor will be directed to the Campus Guidance Director and, if unresolved, to the Assistant Technical Director.
